DEPICTION OF RAPE IN INDIAN HINDI FILMS

I remember how in 90s Hindi films it was ALWAYS the "Hero's sister" who got raped in the middle of the road and then committed suicide because her HONOR was snatched away.
The heights of stigma association with rape in Indian film industry was that they never choose the "Heroin" as the target of rape.
If Heroin gets raped in that case the "Hero" will have to stay with this DAMAGED women for the rest of his life, right? So it was quite convenient for the screenplay writers to get the poor sister get raped. She had the readily available option of committing suicide!
Why I praise Nirbhaya from bottom of my heart is not because she suffered the ill fate of rape. She was the victim of a tragic event. What made her a national Hero is that instead of choosing to be a VICTIM, she became a SURVIVOR.
The bravery with which Nirbhaya spoke about the tragedy she suffered woken up- EVERY SINGLE WOMAN- in this country to two facts:
One, in place of her, any one of us could have been the target of this mad misogyny.
Two, she was not ASHAMED of what happened with her.
WHY SHOULD SHE?
She was not the culprit, she was the one who suffered.
SHE WAS THE HERO AND WILL STAY A HERO TO EVERY INDIAN WOMAN.
